Ever Wonder (Fish Go Deep Remix) - Alton Miller ft Abacus

Alton Miller is one of those rare producers that has been consistently producing quality music with a minimun of fuss for many years - no flavour-of-the-month hype, no bandwagon-jumping, just soulful, grown-up house. From early 90's gems on KMS and Serious Grooves to more recent releases on Peacefrog, Seasons and Clone, his music has long been and still is essential listening.

So when Andy Roberts, label boss at Toronto's Mixed Signals Music, asked us to remix one of the tracks from Alton's forthcoming album, we needed all of, oooh, about two seconds to say yes. Andy sent us the album, Light Years Away, and on first listen Ever Wonder jumped out at us - beautiful chords over a great groove, topped with a sweet vocal line. Plenty to work with.

We're not the quickest studiobots on the block but this remix came together pretty fast. We went with a stripped back groove for the first half - cutting up the keys and filtering them down to just the low end - before introducing a new Rhodes piano and the full vocal line half way through. Some extra percussion and a synth line mirroring the vocal melody takes it home.
